ENDWORLD #15 NEVADA RUN BY DAVID ROBBINS

Standard

tarzan

Copyright 1989.

Two jeeps filled with well dressed men are heading toward the Home in Minnesota. They come upon four young people on the road. One of them is Mindy who is from the Home. After they hear this the men shoot the other three. Two are killed outright and the third is shot in the knees. The leader leaves a message with the survivor. He’s to tell Blade that his name is Don Pucci and if he wants to see Mindy he has one month to come to Las Vegas and meet him at the Golden Horn Casino. Otherwise Mindy will be killed.

Naturally Blade doesn’t take kindly to threats to the Family members. So together with the Alpha Triad Hickok and Geronimo they take off in the SEAL. Also along is another warrior Helen who happens to be the mother of Mindy. They arrive at Vegas and find that it is still a hot tourist destination. Casinos, booze and women available 24 hours seven days a week. Oh and its also run by the Mafia. So basically nothing has changed since the Big Blast.

They get involved with a war between two powerful Dons. They find out that Don Giorgio was the one who set up Don Pucci hoping the warriors would eliminate his main rival. Of course it doesn’t work out the way he wanted and lives to regret ever messing with Blade.

You know this is what I love about this series. They fight mutants, Soviets and androids in one book. Now they are in Las Vegas and taking on the mob. There’s always something new. I guess I’m not surprised that Vegas is still going after the apocalypse. Not even a nuclear war can stop Vegas.

BLADE #2 OUTLANDS STRIKE BY DAVID ROBBINS

Standard

tarzan

Copyright 1989.

Word has come out of a mutant confederation that is forming in the outlands. The Freedom Federation decides to send the force to investigate. So Blade and the force go in and check out the city of Grant’s Pass, Oregon. Things don’t go as planned and they are captured by a race of reptilian men. Taken to the city they find it is ruled by a mutant race called the Reptiloids. They are ruled by Reptilian a mutant that has an interest in the old Roman empire and hopes to recreate his own version.

In his Imperium he holds gladiator matches where the loser is make into hamburgers. Literally with ketchup and buns. The Reptiloids have a taste for human flesh. Now Blade the force must survive the arena or be turned into Big Macs.

The second in the series sees the force start to form into a cohesive team. Havoc, Boone and Thunder start to form a friendship and there is a growing bond between Grizzly and Athena. Kraft is killed but he was sort of an asshat so that’s no big loss. Reptilian is a jovial mutant with a sense of humor and can even laugh at jokes directed at him. Nice to see that the villains in the series aren’t all grim and dour. Of course he is also a delusional megalomaniac with the standard dream of world conquest.

I will say that the Pacific Northwest is probably a place you want to avoid after the apocalypse. If it isn’t mutants trying to make you into burgers they are putting you into Humariums to perform for their amusement. Yup I think I’ll just stay in the Midwest. It’s probably safer.

On August 12, 1992 in this reality the IRA succeeds in contaminating Britain’s drinking water with LSD. The prime minister and others in power under LSD decide to retaliate by nuking Ireland. And for good measure their allies South Africa and China. The war escalates and draws almost all countries into the fight. Chemical and biological weapons kill half the world’s population.

Now it is 1999 and the US like most of the world is a depopulated wasteland. Texas has seceded taking their needed oil reserves. Since manpower is scarce both sides must rely on Israeli mercenaries. It seems that Israel is one of the few countries to not get involved with the war and actually faces overpopulation.

Sol Ingelstein commands a brigade of modern Centurion tanks for the Federal Domestic Forces. His laser gatling gun mounted tanks easily crush the Texan’s obsolete armor and make it to Dallas. There…
